Vegetation Removal
 [print]
Re: Marinwood CSD fire hazard reduction policy

With the unseasonably warm weather we have been enjoying these past few weeks, it seems that spring will be upon us early. Each spring, we keep a watchful eye on the fire fuel potential of our undeveloped open space.

Marinwood CSD policy is to leave open space in its natural condition, so we do not remove trees or vegetation unless there is an immediate threat to life or property. The fuel break/fire road parallel to Idylberry Rd. is mowed, but no longer graded each year.

In the past years, we have mowed and cut vegetation alongside properties adjoining the Miller Creek corridor in Lucas Valley Estates. Now that the natural riparian corridor has been reestablished, as planned by the developer, the CSD will no longer cut vegetation in this area.

The CSD recognizes that residents have a responsibility to protect their homes from fire. To maintain a defensible space around their homes, residents may remove plant debris and trim vegetation in the Marinwood CSD open space up to thirty feet from their property line. Brush and grass may be cut to near ground level, and dead branches from trees and shrubs may be removed. Removal of any trees or native shrubs, or trimming of live tree branches requires permission from Marinwood CSD. Call the Community Center at 479-0775 to arrange for permission to remove live trees and native shrubs. You may also consult with the Marinwood CSD Fire Department regarding your defensible space. Call the Fire Department at 479-0122 to arrange for as consultation.
