THE MARINWOOD COMMUNITY SERVICES DISTRICT IS AN AFFIRMATIVE ACTION/EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER THE DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY Marinwood Community Services District is situated about eighteen miles north of San Francisco in Marin County. It serves an unincorporated suburban community of about three square miles, with a population of about 7,000. Established in 1969, Marinwood CSD:
- provides fire protection and emergency services to the District and to the neighboring areas under contract
- provides street lighting services
- maintains parks and a pool and provides recreation activities
THE FIRE DEPARTMENT The Fire Department operates one fire station with a staff of ten full-time firefighters and one chief. It also has an active volunteer firefighter program, with up to twenty participants. The Fire Departments service area includes the community of Marinwood, with about 1,760 homes, four schools, a small shopping center, and a professional center. It also includes adjacent residential and commercial areas under contract with the City of San Rafael and the Marin County Fire Departments. The Department responded to 994 calls in the year 2004 and 1069 in the year 2005. THE POSITION Under direct supervision and as a member of an engine company, responds to all calls, both emergency and non-emergency: fires, medical emergencies, alarms, rescues, hazardous materials events, and public assists. Participants in fire prevention and training activities and in maintenance activities involving apparatus, hose, hydrants, and the fire station. Performs other duties as may be required or as directed.
- High school diploma or equivalency
- California State Board of Fire Services Firefighter 1 or FF1 Academy Certificate at time of hire.
- Emergency Medical Technician - I Certificate at time of hire. California or National Registry
- United States Citizenship
- Possession of valid Class B license within sixty (60) days of employment.
- Successful completion of testing process including written and oral board examinations.
- Current CPAT card at time of interview.
- Must pass medical and physical examination prior to appointment.
- Successfully pass a background check and pre-appointment drug screening.
- Able to be insured by District carrier.

- The examination process will consist of: an application appraisal, written objective exam (70% score required to pass), and an oral board interview exam.
- All applications will be accepted. Fifty (50) candidates will be invited to participate in the exam process.
- Active Marinwood Volunteer Firefighters will be awarded 2.5 additional points on the oral interview.
- Applications can be picked up at the Marinwood Fire Dept., Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm or downloaded from this website beginning September 5, 2006.
- Completed applications accompanied by a copy of your drivers licence must be delivered to the Marinwood Fire Dept. on September 25 through September 29 between 8am-4pm (application does not need to be delivered in person.)
- Copies of EMT Certificate and Firefighter Certificate 1 are optional.
