Quail Rescue
 [print]
Although last week a couple of teen thugs captured the downward arrow, this time around a trio of boys improved the image of their teenage brethren. A group of firefighters from the Marinwood Fire Department was conducting a drill at the top of Skyview Terrace in Terra Linda recently, when several teenage boys called their attention to a nearby storm drain. A brood of baby California quails had fallen into the drain and their helpless mother was standing by. Engine company captain Joel White and firefighter John Papanikolaou lifted the grate (no easy task says an eyewitness), climbed into the pipe and rescued 8 to 10 baby birds. I'm sure Mama Quail would thank all parties involved if she could.
