Groups will meet and park at the San Rafael High School track. There they will be required to complete 1.5 miles (6 laps) in 12 minutes and 0 seconds or faster. Candidates will then have their score sheet signed by the proctor either pass or fail. From there, a proctor will escort all candidates who pass to the tower area of San Rafael Fire Station 2 where they will complete the remainder of the physical agility.Candidates will have to complete the following evolutions in a continuous fashion wearing a turnout coat, structural fire helmet, and an SCBA minus face piece in 8 minutes 0 seconds or faster. Jacket, helmet, and SCBA will be provided. Firefighting gloves will be provided, but are optional.
1) One hundred fifty feet of 2 1/2-inch double jacket cotton hose will be dragged until the first coupling has passed a prescribed line. The candidate will the turn and drag the remainder of the hose across the line until the last coupling has passed the line. This can be accomplished by any means as long as the candidate remains in the predetermined area. When this is completed the candidate will continue on to the next evolution.
2) The candidate will pick up a folded and strapped section of 1 3/4-inch double jacket hose with a gated wye and a nozzle at the entrance of the drill tower. From there the candidate will proceed to the roof of the drill tower with the hose bundle where the candidate will ring a bell. After ringing the bell the candidate will proceed back down the drill tower with the hose bundle and place it back in the prescribed area. Every step in the tower will be used both going up and coming down. Failure to use every step will result in failing the agility exam. When this is completed the candidate will continue to the next evolution.
3) The candidate will roll two lengths of 2 1/2-inch double jacket hose in a straight roll. When this is completed the candidate will continue to the next evolution.
4) Utilizing the rope and a pulley, the candidate will hoist a roll of 2 1/2-inch double jacket cotton hose from the ground to the top of the tower and back down to the ground two times. No slipping or dropping of the rope is allowed. Slipping or dropping of the rope will result in failing the agility exam. When this is completed the candidate will continue to the next evolution.
5) The candidate will drag a dummy weighing approximately 150 lbs. a total of 50 feet across a prescribed line. This will be accomplished by grasping the dummy from behind under the arms and across the chest. When this is completed the candidate will continue to the next evolution.
6) The candidate will swing the sledgehammer provided against a log 45 times. With each swing the sledgehammer must pass above the candidates head. If the sledgehammer is not raised high enough the swing will not be counted. The candidate must be standing while swinging the sledgehammer, kneeling is not allowed. When this is completed the candidate will continue to the next evolution.
7) The candidate will assemble one end of a fifty-foot length of 2 1/2-inch hose to a fire hydrant and the other end to a 2 1/2-inch smooth bore nozzle. When this is completed the candidate will continue to the next evolution.
8) The candidate will pick up a 14-foot roof ladder and carry it around a prescribed course in a controlled high shoulder carry. The candidate will then raise the ladder and place it against the training tower. When this is completed, the candidate will lower the ladder and place it back on the ground against the tower. Dropping of the ladder or failure to raise the ladder in two attempts will result in failing the agility exam. When this is completed the candidate has finished the physical agility exam.
| | Candidates who complete the agility exam in the allotted time and required manner will have their score sheet signed by the proctor and turned in to the Marinwood Fire Chief. |
